It was a deal that Publix had and she bought me and her motherinlove a set. I love them. Thanks for all the facts too. We would probably be shocked to know just how many kids and adults have no clue about the pilgrims. Thank you Kathy!!
My resources stand corrected!
This just makes my point even more real!
So much of our History is fading or getting mixed up.
Being a Librarian, I trust you. Thanks again!Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09690722786561637489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4194470134127218973.post-26266294141039785182018-11-09T05:13:12.907-08:002018-11-09T05:13:12.907-08:00There are plenty of Pilgrim and other Thanksgiving...There are plenty of Pilgrim and other Thanksgiving decoration in Philly. You should come here and you'd have your pick!

There are just a couple of things incorrect in your "facts." I have been to Plymouth several times and it is a modern city just like any other. The picture you showed is from Plimouth Plantation which is about 10 miles outside of the city and is a historic recreation. I have also been there and even wrote a paper on it for a college class I was taking. It is a great place to visit. The historic interpreters stay in character and if you ask them things like, "Did you ever think there would be TV?" they will look at you as if you are from another planet and answer in old English (which is different from what we speak and hard to understand) that they don't know what you are talking about.

Also, the Pilgrims did not ask to start a new church. They disagreed with both the Catholic church and the Church of England and without permission started meeting in houses to worship as they saw fit. Because of this they were persecuted and moved to Holland to avoid the persecution. However, they did not fit in there well and so were eager to move to America where they would have more freedom. The King of England agreed because he was getting rid of them. Although they wanted religious freedom they were not tolerant of anyone who disagreed with them and persecuted all the Anabaptists. A good website for this is mayflowerhistory.com/religion.

As I said I did a lot of research on this in college. I hope this is interesting to you. And I thoroughly agree that Thanksgiving is a skipped over holiday where God is put in the background and turkey is put on the throne.Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05673288414533354350noreply@blogger.com
