What Hat Are You Wearing?

How many hats do you wear?

Do you still wear the same hats you wore ten years ago, five years ago?

What new hat have you found?
~~~~~~~~
This summer I will be wearing some very new hats.
The first hat is one as an Officiant. I will be officiating for my Brother-in-law and his fiance's wedding, later this month. I have never done anything like this before (new hat)!
At this wedding, our daughter is the Flower Girl at age 26, and she is eight and 1/2 months pregnant! Ever since she was a little girl, she has asked her Uncle is she could be his Flower Girl. Now, years later, he is getting married at the age of 55.
~~~~~~~
My second hat will be a Master of Ceremonies. I was asked to be the MC (new hat) for our Back to School Retreat, this August. This is a gathering of all the School Secretaries in our school district. I will be speaking in front of 120 women. This retreat will have an inspirational speaker, and a delicious lunch. This day is spent listening, eating, laughing and lots of talking. It's also a time to catch up with each other. My job will be to keep everything running smoothly and on time.

~~~~~~~
The third hat is a Doula. At the end of August or early September, I will be my daughter's Doula! She asked me to be her Doula for our first granddaughter, two 1/2 years ago. At the time I didn't know what a Doula was, so I took classes. After a week of intense work, I became a certified Doula (new hat). This is one of the best things I ever did. I learned so much about natural childbirth and how to help support our daughter through the whole birth process.
~~~~~~~

All these new hats are ones that I take seriously. I have tried to learn as much as I could before I put on each new hat. These new hats, allow me to discover new capabilities, and see what new goals I can reach. How rewarding for someone like me.
I still wear my wife hat, mother hat, "Gamma" hat, friendship hat, co-worker hat and gardening hat, but I've added a few more. I'm always open to trying on some other new hat!

What new hat are you willing to put on?

When washing a rug that sheds, put it in an old pillowcase and tie the top well. You won't have a mess in the washer. Just shake out the pillowcase.

  4. Mother,
    I'm so excited to have you as my doula again. I wouldn't want to birth with out you there. That hat is only one that a mother can wear I feel.
    I love you!!

  5. That is a wonderful post! It is challenging in that I haven't thought about new hats. I had first better put on my real hat and stay out of the sun. I had an encounter with it a few weeks ago that left me not feeling well.

    But in terms of figurative hats. I have to put on the hat of good DIL to help with my MIL's milestone birthday party. I often wear the hat of "helps" when I'm trying to help friends who need it. I also need to wear a painter's hat and get finished with a room I need to decorate!

    Thanks for making me think. I know you will wear yours well. I hope I do!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  7. I was in the delivery room with my daughter when she had our first grand daughter a little over a week ago. What a blessing it was to be there "helping" her to bring a beautiful baby into the world. Good luck wearing all of your new hats. I have an award for you over on my blog.
