The Little Brown Dress

I was talking to my friend who works at Nordstroms and of course we talked about the economy. I asked her how her job is going. She said so far, she's doing fine. But the store needs people to buy clothes. I wanted to tell her about the story I read this past weekend about a woman who wore the same dress for a YEAR!
You have to read it because it is very interesting. http://www.littlebrowndress.com/brown%20dress%20archive%20home.htm
Personally, I don't think I could ever do it but it sure was fun to read about.

Yummy! and easy Artichoke Dip

"K" our daughter made this and it was so easy that I thought I'd share it with you. We are not really into cooking or trying new recipes so when one of us experiments and it turns out great, well it calls for celebration.

Recipe: 1 can Artichokes (drained & chopped)

2 C. shredded Mozzarella cheese

1 C. shredded Parmesan cheese

1C. Mayonnaise

1 small cans green chilies

salt to taste

Bake at 275 degrees for 45 minutes
( "K" doubled this recipe so we could enjoy more of it)

This made so much that she divided it up. One for tasting now, one big one for her Woman's Group tonight and one for tomorrow!

February is Birthday Month

Friends, Family... all have birthdays this month.
(Barbie is turning 50 next month)

So to celebrate these "special" days, I found on a blog, (I can't remember which one, sorry) that had the idea for gifts. (Update: Blog is Just a Girl)
Buy the cheap bottle of hand sanitizer. Make sure the label can be peeled off.
I also used Goof Off to help take off most of the labels. .
Then I got out my stickers, ribbons and tags from my craft closet.

And with in minutes, Ta Da! Great gift for my co-workers at school.

Just think of all the possibilities...

Thursday Night Date

Yes, I am a Survivor Freak! Thursday nights you will find me in front of the T.V.
Popcorn and drink in my hand, ready for the latest episode. But I'm not alone. Tom is just as addicted as me. Tomorrow, I will discuss the show with a few ladies at work. We'll talk about who we like, what was funny, who's next to be booted off the island and who do we want to win or don't want to win. We have been doing this since it first came on the air.
Well, it's almost time...got to go get my popcorn and warm up my seat!

Eat, Pray, Love & Read

What I Did On My Vacation

We ate and we ate well. Coffee shops, ice cream, yummy pasta chicken and of course more coffee....

We Prayed...there were so many beautiful places to think, talk and pray...

And I Loved being with my husband and I Loved being up here away from our everyday lives...

And I read! I don't recall ever reading a whole book in one weekend. I read my books and my husband read the paper...

I learned that I need to take time to relax, really relax and not feel guilty about it.

Thanks Tom for taking me away.

Thanks Bev for offering your beautiful place.

Thanks Deb for your reading suggestion.

It's Time for a Vacation!

WE ARE GOING ON A VACATION!

My husband and I are going away this weekend. We are heading out to one of the islands in the San Juan. I'm so excited! It is so beautiful there. It's peaceful, quiet and no noise. Did I mention that it is very serene? We haven't been on a vacation in years. Now we get to go. Just the two of us. Even the dogs are staying home (being babysat by our daughter, son-in- law and our granddaughter).

I'm packing tonight and taking books for reading, walking shoes and of course my camera. We'll be back on Monday.

Have a great weekend !

Gifts for Volunteers

At my job I have different "Mom" Volunteers that come to help me out everyday. Each day two moms come up and file or make phone calls. I value them very much. I also enjoy the time we spend together, as we work. And I have gotten to know them very well. We laugh, we cry, we talk and we work. I try to give these volunteers a special Thank You, at least twice a year. Once at Thanksgiving and the other time is Mother's day.
This year I didn't give them the usual Starbucks card at Thanksgiving. Money has been tight and with all that was going on in my life at that time, I didn't get around to it. So, for Christmas I made candy but the snow closed the school, so candy stayed with me.
Now it's Valentine's Day and I got this idea last night while I drifted off to sleep.
Nothing says Spring like Primroses!
Fred Meyer has Primroses for 97 cents. I needed 10.
At the Dollar Store I bought white lunch bags, 50 for $1.00.
The ribbon I bought for $2.99 and $2.00 for three huge rolls. Love the apple green!
I also bought those boxes of heart candy, 4 for $1.00.
My calculation is, each gift comes to about $1.99. A lot better then the $10.00 coffee cards!
I couldn't do my job very well without Volunteers.
No matter where you volunteer, I want to thank you. Your time and service is much appreciated. And if you have time, go to your local school and get put on the volunteer list. You never know who's life you might change.

Goodwill Find

My new purse!

My new, green purse!

My new, green, Ann Klein purse!

My new, green,Ann Klein, cheap purse!

********************

I have been reading blogs for a while now and there are so many ladies who go to the Thrift store and Goodwill. They all show their wonderful finds. Well, this time it's me! I have been looking for a Spring purse for a long time. When I saw this I didn't think much, except that I like the color. As I inspected it more, I read real leather, Ann Klein ,$6.99 and the best part, the inside! The splash of hot pink. I have gotten so many complements on my new green purse.

I went to Paris last night!

Last night my husband took me to "Paris".

Well, actually I pretended it was Paris. It was so much like being in Paris, I almost started speaking French. Then I remembered I don't speak one word of French.

Tom and I were coming home from an appointment and I asked him to drive by this cute little cafe in Kirkland. I had driven by several times and really like the looks from the outside. We walked in and the place was quaint and romantic. The bartender seated us at a table with white cloth, crystal wine glasses and a candle. And of course it was by the window. I sipped wine while we ordered. In the background played soft music. I learned later that this cafe has been open for only a month.

To entice customers, they roast chestnuts outside the front door and hand them out to people walking by. It smelled so good.
We stayed for about three hours. And it was a "school" night. We got home and I went straight to bed, so I could dream more dreams of Paris.

If you want a little romance in a Paris like atmosphere, stop by the Market Street Cafe.

Memphis

We went to the theater the other night and saw the show Memphis. Wow, is all I can say. So much fun and excitement. We had seats that were so close you could see them spitting as they belted out the songs, but not so close that you got hit by the spray! My husband's brother and his girlfriend took us out to dinner and then the show.

We live on the out skirts of Seattle and drove across the lake to the big city. What a treat to see the city all lit up at night. We dressed up and had a great dinner first. Then walked over to the most beautiful theater I have ever seen, The 5th Avenue Theater. The story is about how Rock'n Roll got started. The show was exciting and the music was heart felt. By the end we were all standing and clapping! I didn't want it to end. What an evening! Thanks Bob and Tamar!

Everything I needed to Know

Everything I needed to know, I learned from Noah's Ark

One.........Don't miss the boat

Two.........Remember that we are all in the same boat.

Three......Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

Four........Stay fit, When you're 60+ years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

Five.........Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to get done.

Six...........Build your future on high ground.

Seven.....For safety sake, travel in pairs.

Eight.......Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were n board with the cheetahs.

Nine.......When you're stressed,float a while.

Ten.........Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

Eleven....No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

I read this the other day and thought it was fun.
