Most Important Question

An Inspirational Story

(I found this story and wanted to share it with you, just as a reminder for all of us)

....................

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop

quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the

questions, until I read the last one:

"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely, this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times.

She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.

Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely", said the professor.

"In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello".

I've never forgotten that lesson.

I also learned her name was Dorothy.

  2. I've been the cleaning lady many times. I have found that if I am friendly with the people I've cleaned for, they will in turn not only be friendly but also be more careful about the messes that leave for me to clean up. It's a win-win situation. It takes lots of people to make things run smoothly even if you never see them do the work. Great post! I love Carol Burnett, too.

I love this and will share it with my kids. It's a lesson that we all would be better off if we learned and took it to heart! You have such a gift of wisdom, and I'm glad you are willing to share with us! God bless.... Dee Dee

  8. That is so true. My Mama carries it too far. My sisters and I just several days with her on a trip to Branson. She is so friendly that she wanted to talk to everyone we came in contact with. She always asks their name. This really slows you down when you're trying to shop or eat. Thanks, Doylene
