Birthday and a Poem

Tom's birthday caked decorated by 3 1/2 year old Lulu.
Do I see a finger swipe?

Friday night, we celebrated Tom's birthday.
Our family came over for dinner and laughs.
Before we ate, Tom shared this touching poem to us.

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-ground?

Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day, on the fly?
When you ask," How are you?",
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
With the next hundred chores
Running in your head?

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child, "We'll do it tomorrow."
And in you haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die, cause you never had time
To call and say, "Hi".

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift...
Thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.

This is a poem written by a teenage girl with cancer.
She has 6 months left to live and her dying wish,
she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest,
since she never will.

Happy Birthday Tom!
You gave us a wonderful gift.

The artist at work!
(I'm enjoying every moment)

  1. Thank you Christine for posting that 'reminder' that we all need. I've really tried lately to just live in the moment and live for today...not tomorrow after church, or Monday when Savy goes back to school.

    Have a blessed weekend.

  2. Christine,
First please pass on Happy Birthday wishes to Tom!
Second, thank you and Tom for sharing the wonderful poem, so much wisdom, we should take that to heart. Tell Lulu I loved her cake!

  3. Happy Birthday Tom. I think I did see a finger mark. I'm sure it was required!! What a heart felt poem. Thanks for sharing it. Enjoy the day. Jude

  4. I love the marshmallow and gummy worm cake!! Glad to see you let the artist follow her own path!!
And I LOVE her hat!! :) It must be her "creativity cap."
I was so moved by that poem. Don't we all just need to slow down and enjoy what's REALLY important??
I'm so glad you all made lots of laughs and memories at Tom's BDay celebration.
There's about to be a birthday here, too. Kenny's big 3-0 is on Friday!!!
Blessings for a happy weekend!! :)

  5. I just bet that Tom has never loved a birthday cake more... except perhaps when he was Lulu's age! Can't get any more beautiful than that!
    Happy Birthday, Tom!

  6. Happy Birthday to Tom! What a great poem and so very true! The cake is adorable...Lulu looks like she was having a fun time making it! :)

  7. Happy Birthday, Tom!

Lovely poem. I need to read that every day!

    Lulu did a wonderful job!

  8. Happy Birthday to your husband. I love the cake (my compliments to the decorator).

Thanks for sharing the beautiful poem. We all need to be reminded to slow down and take the time for those we love.

  9. Belated Birthday Blessings to Tom and I loved that poem. Great reminder for me - even just today.

Oh, and the finger swipe - so sweet...

  10. That looks like one wonderful Slow Dance Evening! Happy Birthday to Tom; he gave a wonderful gift with that poem. Lulu is just precious with her duck hat decorating that cake just perfect for her granddad! Glad you are enjoying these moments. =)
