First Day of a New Year

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man."
- Benjamin Franklin -

I started my day with an early walk.
It was raining and I was the only one, out and about.
There wasn't a car, a person, a dog or bird, as I walked.

I did come across this lonely worm.

I sat by the fire...

(after clearing the Christmas items and rearranging the furniture)

I then had my bowl of Black eyed Peas!

"What seems to us as bitter trails are often blessings in disguise"

Generally speaking, if you are on a budget then walking couldn’t be a be more suitable way to exercise and with very little equipment required, except perhaps for a decent pair of walking shoes.

  1. You know, you made me remember that in years' past we've had hoppin' john for new year's. Will make sure we resurrect that for the next year!!!

  2. Love your quotes, Christine! And, I had to chuckle when I saw the photo of the worm... I have one of those on my blog from walking last winter, along with my foot. Walking is healing! Happy, Happy New Year!

  5. It is so cold here in Western NY that I did my walking this morning in my living room with Exercise-TV. Not quite as pretty as your walk.

  6. Your soup looks a lot like this recipe. I am tempted to try it for "Soup Sunday" tomorrow.

  8. Dee Dee,
First off, I'm NOT a cook, so I rarely do recipes.
    Secondly, I don't follow recipes!
For this recipe, I didn't soak the peas, just cooked them for several hours with the ham hocks. Took the hocks out after they were done, deboned them and served! Now that's my kind of cook'en!

  9. I love your living room. The black eyed peas look delicious. That is a tradition isn't it, To have blackeyed peas on New Years' Day?

Does it come from the south, or Virginia or somewhere? Just curious,
    Nannette
