Every Halloween we would have a fire.
When tired and cold children came home,
we would sit around the fire and eat pumpkin pie.
Some traditions are funny, aren't they.
Tonight, Tom and I are alone.
But we still had our first fire.
We even had dinner by the fire.
Long after dinner, Lucy was still basking in the glow.
Funny how some traditions still carry on.
Oh, that's a lovely tradition! Lucy is such a sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteI miss many things about Halloween with little ones but . . .
ReplyDeleteone thing I really don't miss is trick-or-treating. Sitting by a fire sounds like so much more fun.
Yep. Some of the traditions stay the same... That fire sure looks cozy! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tradition! Here, it's generally way too warm for a fire right now. This year, though, we're c-c-cold (for Georgia)
ReplyDeleteFunny how our dogs become our kids!
ReplyDelete:D Your living room is so warm and cozy with that beautiful fire. I'd sit there too! We have two gas-log cast iron stoves, one in the kitchen and one in the living room. We've already used them a couple of times. So much nicer than the high-efficiency furnace!

That's a great tradition! Lucy is adorable and she knows the best place to hang out.
ReplyDeleteLove this tradition, Christine!! What a romantic evening you had. Lucy looks like she enjoyed it as well. Great post!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day.

Christine, so warm & cozy~ we do not have a fireplace in our home & I miss it so bad. It is cool enough here too for one. I saw 37 this morning on the thermometer.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. Love the sweet little doggie too!
Looking forward to our first fire here.

ReplyDeleteSo good that you keep your tradition even though the kids are gone!
And there's nothing like a blazing fire to get cozy!
No fair...it isn't cool enough here...you beat us to it, and I can't wait. I too am learning to keep traditions even with just the two I have, it is so easy to want to stop when it isn't the WHOLE family...but we all need them, they bring such joy.
ReplyDeleteNow I am going to get ready for our first time to turn on the fire.
Hi there, Loved seeing your cozy room with the fire and Lucy sitting in front of it. She is beautiful, what breed is she? She looks like a Cairn mix I had as a teen. Those pups sure grab our hearts don't they!!!! I'd love to come hang out with you-our family room isn't nearly as cozy as yours.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
A lovely tradition! Lucy knows it's a good thing too!
ReplyDeleteYour tradition reminds me of that old Judy Garland movie "Meet Me in St. Louis", where on Hallowe'en after the young girls come back from their tricks and treats, the family was going to have cake with the new treat of the century 'ice cream' on top.
I always thought that was a fun way to end the evening.
