January is
Get Organize Month.
I have been decluttering, downsizing, organizing, simplifying
or what ever you want to call it,
for the last few months.
I came across a couple of very inspirational blogs and
sights that I want to share with you.
My quest started with this blog;
(be sure to look around this motivational blog)
Her words hit me hard.
"It's easier to Simplify then to Organize"
That was such an eye-opener for me.
So my decluttering, downsizing, simplifying started!
First, I went through our grown children's
things, that were left behind when they moved out.
I gave them back all their pictures, awards, clothes and yearbooks.
Next, I gave them family heirlooms that I knew they would cherish.
It was so much fun to see their faces
when I gave them these loved memories.
Then I started on my own things, like clothes.
How many white t-shirts do I really need?
Today, our home has been simplified!

PS; it feels great!
I've been downsizing for the past year since my theme for 2011 was "Go". I'm not finished yet, and I have found the freedom to eliminate to be great physical and (mainly) emotional exercise.
ReplyDeleteI still have a way to go. I had considered making my theme for this year "Keep Going", but that doesn't seem so creative.
Thanks for the site links. I'll check them out right now.
I am going to check these out, Christine. Good for you to have been disciplined enough to 'get 'er done!' I feel the weight of needing to... I think getting started tackling such a big chore just overwhelms me! Thank you. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteThanks...I seem to be doing this all the time...why?, because we add more. I told my hubby I will not move one unnecessary things in our next move...not one! I have given my adult kids their things..so now to go through and de-clutter my own.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sites and the nudge.
Have fun!! Yes it does feel good.
Great minds think alike, huh? Thanks for the sites. I will definitely check them out. I am determined this year to get organized. Now if I can just stop my husband from unorganizing everything I just did!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be checking out these websites! Thanks for sharing them with us. Organizing is always a good way to start off the new year!

I appreciate your inspiration to me today, and thank you for sharing the blogs that you found helpful. What a cleansing and purging feeling one gets when one simplifies life. It just makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm always working on this--sometimes it seems like things come through the door faster than I can send them out. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Christine! Yes - downsize id the word - for my basement - as I get ready to launch my expanded Pageant Wagon Productions this year with course selections for homeschool families - AND even classes for adults on Biblical creativity and writing! Turning it into a classroom and what a job that is - purging much.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed all your recent family photoss from your holiday fun. Blessings to you this year - more adventures ahead!
Joy!

Oh, me too! But I've just started this week. Every room, closet and drawer needs it. It's going to take me a couple of months, but I'm really looking forward to it!

ReplyDeleteI think you hit the nail on the head! I've been organizing and I just told my husband I feel like I really just shuffling stuff from one place to another.
I would love to give my children their childhood treasure, but not all of them are settled enough for that.
But even just straightening the mess makes me feel better.
Oh Christine, I too was struck by that quote from Small Notebook. Duh... sure glad someone thought that one out loud for the rest of us to hear it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun to declutter and get rid of the 'crap' that accumulates. Such a breathe-easier kind of exercise that is always load-lifting and spirits-raising.
LOL -- I loved Maxine's word on the matter. Perfect!
