Apple Blossom Time

Our Apple tree needed to be trimmed.
So we pruned it.
I kept some of the trimmings.
 They make a beautiful arrangement.
I put them in a vase full of water and adjust the stems.
About a week later, I have budding leaves.

It's fun to watch the stems sprout and then blossom.

is hosting Simple Pleasures.
Please join us every Thursday.

Pruning should consist of keeping the centre of the tree relatively clear of growth, remove all weak or diseased growth and keeping the tree within the space available. Remember that apples will grow on wood produced the previous year, so always keep a good proportion (say 50%) of the previous years growth.

  1. This is so pretty! How fun to be able to enjoy your branches as the blooms come out! It looks great in the entry way!

  2. Just beautiful!

I was thinking yesterday that I need to do the same and was looking around the neighborhood for trees that would be easy for me to "snip" off a few branches from! Will see if I get the nerve!

  3. That's a two-in-one kind of good activity! Pruning the tree to keep it healthy AND enjoying a beautiful arrangement!

  4. Ohhhhh how I wish I could fly you out so you could help me figure out our new orchard! If I can figure out which tree is a apple, I'll have to try this!

  5. How pretty. I've tried it with Forsythia branches...

I love bringing in the budding branches and then just let them dry as they are. They just bring so much nature/natural influence into the home. I love it.

  6. So wonderful to see something BLOOMING!!! :) :) :)
Makes me very happy on a snowy New England day. :)

  7. Truly a beautiful uncomplicated arrangement.

Thank you for sharing a great idea as I would of never thought of this.

  8. Wow, your trees are budding already! Thank you for the pruning tips. I'm never quite sure what I am doing when it comes to snipping them back. Nice to catch up with you.

  9. Things are starting to bud here, so it is making me long to see spring. The good shower we had last night is definitely starting to green things up a bit. Jackie

  10. They look so pretty on your hall table. So simple but sooo pretty!

  11. I never knew you could do that. Something will definitely try. What a great idea...

  12. And this is why my thumb is so brown. I had no clue that limbs trimmed would still bud. That is so cool to me.

I love your simple pleasure. I love apple blossoms.

  13. Wow - they budded in your vase?!
    How wonderful!
That is truly a pleasure to see :-)

  14. That looks sooooooooo pretty in your entrance. I need to do this b/c I am in real need of some spring amongst all the snow.

  15. Hi Christine,
I love the picture of Seattle you have for your header. The curving roads and the colours are beautiful.
The apple tree branches leafing and budding are awesome.
    God Bless

  16. OMGosh, Chrstine, I didn't know apple branches would do that inside. That's pretty amazing and the photo, as well.
