Flu Season, Are You Ready?

People have been making Elderberry Syrup for years.
The benefits are amazing.
The berries help prevent and treat flu, colds, coughs, sinus pain.
Well, the lists goes on.

I have been taking a tablespoon a day,
since the end of September.
Not even a cold!

Tom on the other hand,
just finished with the worst bronchitis!
He didn't take the syrup.
(no, it wasn't part of a scientific experiment, even though he thinks it was)

I ordered my dried berries from Amazon.
The process is very easy.
Boil, strain, add honey, pour into a bottle
and refrigerate.

It's amazing, only one tablespoon.

🔹*****🔹

Yesterday, we received a little bit of snow.
Not much, but enough
to cover the ground and make everything white.

This neighborhood boy (green jacket) was out
shoveling our neighborhood sidewalks.
It was so thoughtful.

Here's Tom taking out the trash.
Shorts and flip-flops!
At least he has a hat and coat on!!

"Oh Tom!
I have something for you,
And it's really good for you!!"

I think I'll order more berries today!

It's A New Year

It was the start of the New Year,
I went for my annual morning walk.
Only today, it was January 1st.

Burr it's cold out!

The sky was unusually weird.
This cloud hoovered over my path.
Off in the distance
you could see the sun peeking through.

It didn't last to long.
Long enough to wonder if I would be
"Going Home" soon!
I did make it home but not
the one I was thinking about.

Seeing the Christmas Lights

Only a few of us went to see the beautiful Christmas lights
and musical, fountain show,
 at the outdoor mall.
Tom stayed home with Silas and Isaac, who were sick.

It was so wonderful
and then...
it started snowing, right on time.

It was snowing hard!

This is a walking tube of lights.

Just Like a Hallmark Movie

Tom and I live in a small town.
We do small town activities.

Spring is country drives.
Summer is the open air market.
Fall we do a Harvest Festival
Winter...
It's the Christmas Tree Lighting!
The streets are decorated.
Christmas music is playing.
People, young and old are walking around,
all bundled up.
Some with hot cider, or hot chocolate in their hands.
With anticipation,
all are waiting for the count down of the
Tree Lighting!
The tree is right in the middle of town.
You can see it from just about everywhere.

The back drop is the Historical Railroad Station
all decorated with lights and greenery.

They even had a Horse Drawn
Carriage ride.

The sunset was beautiful!

The lights were magnificent.

And then the tree...
Everyone gathered around.
The Master of Ceremonies started out with a prayer.
(Only in a small town)
The family that donated the tree
spoke on behalf of their mother,
for whom the tree was dedicated to.
 Cheers and applause when the
lights came on.

It is beautiful!

             Before lights                      After lights

We headed home for dinner.
A bowl of  hot, homemade Pea Soup.

Yes, it's Christmas time!

Now to wrap the all packages...

The Big Melt

We've had so much snow this Winter.
Here is the Boise area,
it has been "record levels" of snow.
Not only snow, but freezing temperatures that
wouldn't let the snow to melt.

So for two and half months,
 starting back on Dec. 6th,
we've been buried under several feet of snow.

Until now!
Here are a series of pictures from
 our backyard snow melt.

Just when I thought the snow was going away,
it snowed two inches!

The picture below is interesting,
because it looks like fluffy mounds of snow.
I was actually standing on one of those
mounds, taking the picture.
Rock hard snow!

This was a few days ago.
Most of the snow is gone, in the major
part of our backyard.
The North side still has snow.

I can't wait to start hanging up laundry on the line outside. Getting dirt under my fingernails from working in the garden.

The Tale of Our Garbage Can and Two more Signs

I would like to think,
that "our" humor comes out more,
 during tough or trying times.
At least,
it has for some,
when it comes to snow.

First;
The Tale of Our Garbage Can

Top left: First week, no garbage pick up
Top right:Second week, no garbage pick up
Bottom left: Third week, no garbage pick up
Bottom right: Fourth week, no garbage pick up.

A whole month of NO garbage pick up

Then one day, during the 5th week of no pick up,
I heard a loud noise.
I ran to the window with camera in hand.

BINGO!

And now,
because you have endured the garbage pictures,
Two funny snow related signs!

Below: look at all that snow!

Same sign, only from a distance,

Bonus Picture!

You Know I Had To Blog About This!

Snow, Snow, Snow and more Snow!

We have a covered back patio
 that was full of snow.
And with all the snow and now rain,
it started to bow in the middle.

Tom to the rescue!

But first, he had to get ready....

Once he was ready, he went out and
tried to remove the snow with a long-handled brush.

  It wasn't enough!

Our Son-in-law, Mark, came over to
help. Together, they reinforced and braced
the sagging patio roof.

Well done Boys!

Playtime!

Tom and I went over to play in the snow
with our grandchildren.

With new, powdered snow and chains on,
we were ready in minutes.

The snow was hip-high for Silas.
But his buddy, Papa was there to help.

 The kids made an igloo
out of the snowman
from the first snowfall.

We walked around their yard in knee high snow.
Got my workout in for the day!

If you fell down, which we all did,
it was a soft landing.

I think we'll all remember this
Winter!
