The Great Harvest

Our new addition to the garden...
Pink Lady Apple Tree.

It came with a very small apple growing at the top.
Perfect for grandchildren to look at but not touch.

This apple tree was like a our new "child".
We took so many pictures,
 it was hard to pick which ones to post!

After reading and learning about when and how to pick apples, it was time.

You twist, pull and it should
come right off.

It was small but packed with so much flavor.

I'm already anticipating taking a juicy bite of an apple, next year.

Produce From The Garden

~~~**~~~
I'm ususally up before dawn and "play" in the garden.
I like to call it, Pajama Gardening
Definition: Working in the garden in you PJ's
before the hot sun pops out.
But Tom was nice and took a picture of me dressed and
ready for my day.
Our family, friends and neighbors have enjoyed
some of our bounty.
I had Bumper crops of lettuce and zucchini.
Ate salads everyday.
Gave away multiple loafs of Zucchini Bread.
With plenty zucchini in the freezer.
Lettuce anyone?
Every Thursday night, we have the family over for dinner.
Last Thursday we ate from the garden!
Salad: lettuce, tomatoes, pickled beets, green peppers, cucumbers and
 for dessert, Peach Cobbler.
I am so happy I planted a garden this year.
Now I know what I want to do next year and what I won't be doing.
I even kept a Gardening Journal.
 A little sad to clean out part of the garden.
I do have some late growing
vegetables popping up!
This was the year that I really wanted to grow a vegetable garden.
I tried in the past but the weeds took over.
THIS YEAR WE ARE
EATING FROM OUR GARDEN.
Our yard isn't big but we have plenty of room for raised beds.
We graveled the lawn in the back of the yard and added pots and two raised beds.
After
Beets, dill, carrots, and lots of lettuce are in the two beds.
The pots have the herbs; chives, rosmary, parsley, basil (lots of basil)
and of course tomatoes.
~~~***~~~

We decided to take away the back half of our lawn,
 on the other side of the walk way
to make room for four more raised beds.

Before

After

We planted two Pink Lady apple trees, broccoli, zucchini, red onions, strawberries, red peppers, and more lettuce.

And my roses...
love my roses!

~~~***~~~
After working in the garden, we really enjoy our patio,
looking at our salad for the next day.
But my favorite type of plants
 are the Volunteers.
This little pansie grew all on it's own,
in the sidewalk that goes down to our fence.
Long Time Coming
I have waited for awhile to show you
what has been happening around our home.
AN ADDDITION!
This is what our home looked
like several months ago.
Then it looked like this...
We added 400 sq. ft. to the back of our home.
The covered patio is now our new Family Room and
(my favorite part) a Dining Room!
We added a Barn Door, which used to be an outside door.
Still working on finishing touches to the inside.
This is Don, who is Kimmy's Father-In-Law,
Mark's dad.
He agreed to build us custom bookshelves.
He flew up from Oregon and is staying with
Mark, Kimmy and 6 grandkids!
It's a win-win-win for everyone.
Tom has been Don's helper!
We still need to add the doors to the lower cabinets,
and painting the whole thing.
Then hanging the TV,
next to the tall bookshelf.
The shelf that goes all the way
 across to the Barn Door,
will have art work,
leaning up against the wall.
When Spring comes, we will be heading outside,
redoing the backyard.
(That will be another blog post.)
***************************
Below are some pictures of our progress.
Our dining room Before...
After...
We have three huge windows, that look out onto our backyard.
I have my desk/ sewing table that looks outside.
My favorite part is having enough room to fit
our family around the table for
our Tuesday Night Dinners!
Praising God for His hand on all of this!
I'll miss the old patio,
but not as much as I am enjoying our new space.
This is my view, when I blog!
No matter the weather, it's a joy to look outside!
What a blessing!
