Dear Todd & Stephanie,

~Bystyr University~

You have asked me to be your Doula.
(someone who nutures and guides a birthing mother)
I am honored and so pleased that you asked me.
I want to do my best for you,
so I enrolled in Doula classes.

 Four days of intense learning.
Four days of hands-on activities.
Four days of insight and more understanding.

I meet young nursing students from Twain.

Our instructors were smart, funny and interesting.
They had a style all their own,
 which made for fun learning.

Lunch time was unbelievable.
The campus is in a beautiful setting.

Bastyr is a natural health university.
They grow their own vegetables for their cafeteria,
 here in this garden.

 They also grow flowers.

On this day, the massage class was held outside.
Oh yea... massages outside!

~Certificate~

Well, Todd and Stephanie,
I am ready to help you and Baby Boy
make his way into this world.

~July 29, 2012~

It won't be long now.

  5. What a great idea. You would have been great without the classes but I'm sure it was a nice refresher, update on new stuff and a good confidence booster. Looks like it was fun, too! :)

  10. Hi Christine, I know that Doula's can make a world of difference for the mother to be; congrat's for stepping out and preparing for the task. How incredibly special! I've never been to a birth before-when my girls started having babies they wanted the births to be private and now I have babysitting duties. Enjoy and blessings to the parents to be.
    Hugs, Noreen

  14. Vista Woman, I salute your courage. My daughter had her third child at home with two certified midwives in attendance.

While I was also present, I was no doula: I just prayed and rejoiced with them.
    You go, girl!

  15. What a great class and I never even thought about how Doulas were trained.

A friend's daughter recently had a baby and they hired a Doula to be there during the birth. I'm glad your kids asked you. I know my sweet friend, a wonderful mother, was hurt not to be included in the birth of her grandbaby.

  16. Just catching up with you, Christine - and WOW - you have been having quite the excitement this summer, yourself! Though, not all work related - I wish I was having more down time to enjoy vacation days.

I LOVE the microwave teacup cakes - though I try to avoid microwave cooking as a general rule. This might make it for a special event teatime! Thanks for the tip.

Oh - and about my daughter's dress - YES - the very first one she tried on was the winner. We tried on about a dozen dresses - but that first one was the champ! So beautiful! Can't share pictures til the big day, though - sometime this fall.

    Joy!
    Kathy

  17. Hi Christine. Thank you for leaving me a comment on my blog, Simplify! I have had a good time reading back a few pages here on your blog. Sounds like we have kids about the same age, and grandkids too. But I see you are going to pass me up with a new baby boy this month! How exciting to have been asked to be their Doula. Did I spell that right?
    I will be back!!!
    XO Kris
