What's Your Nick-Name?

Being almost 58 years old, I've had a few different "names".
Nick-names that loved ones and friends have called me.
Nothing outrageous, different or weird.
Christine (my given name)
Chrissy (my girlfriend still calls me this )
Chris (all through school)
Wifey (my husband)
Mommy (kids, but now it's Mom)
Mother (Kimmy calls me this)
Ha (co-worker, don't ask!)

my favorite nick-name is

I remember talking to Kimmy, our daughter, when she was first pregnant.
We discussed what I wanted to be called by my grandchildren.
I had never really thought about it.
I always thought Grandma was OK.
Then I thought, why not let my grandchildren call me what ever they wanted.
So about a year ago, when Lulu was almost three years old,
out popped a small and very cute, "Gramie-Goo".
Now, Lulu will be in another room and I will hear her shout, "Gramie Goo!!"
And I will laugh because it is a perfect name for me.
Of all the nick-names I have, this is the sweetest.

This is the name that my granddaughter has so lovingly has given me.

In Viking societies, many people had nicknames heiti, viĆ°rnefni, or uppnefni which were used in addition to, or instead of their family names. In some circumstances the giving of a nickname had a special status in Viking society in that it created a relationship between the name maker and the recipient of the nickname, to the extent that the creation of a nickname also often entailed a formal ceremony and an exchange of gifts.

  1. What a sweet post and what an adorable photo of you and your granddaughter! Have a nice evening Gramie-Goo!!

  2. Lulu loves her Gramie-Goo!! And I think Levi is going to think that's your real name. When he hears "Gramie-Goo" is here he starts running for the front door.

  3. I love that name! You are a blessed lady.

  4. Awww ... that's so SWEET! And what a cutie pie she is.

  5. So, I wonder if Levi and baby #3 will follow her lead or create a "grandma name" of their own?

  6. Such a cute and endearing name! :)

  7. How about this one...

"Call me whatever you want - just don't call me late for dinner."

One of my dad's favorite lines.

    I've had several nicnames too.

    -Beverly (given name)
-Bev Lahaye ( I guess for Beverly Lahaye with Concerned Woman for America)
    -Bev LaNoodle
shortened to just Noodle and I have a dear friend who still calls me that and is probably the only one who can get away with it.

    - Babe (my favorite, used only by my hubby of course.)

    - Mom, Mom, mom, MOM...all in the same breath or just simply Mommy

  8. I'm so exhusted from our crazy trip to and from Florida, but my eyes filled with tears at seeing the photo of you and Lulu. Grammie Goo how perfectly perfect!
The children are so blessed to have you in there sweet lives. You make a difference...
    You shine a light...
    because of this blessings abound.
    Happy Tuesday night!
    Dee Dee

  9. I am Mawmaw and you are Grammie-Goo...what fun is that! Happy grandmas, that is what we are. What a precious little smile she has.

  10. How precious! It will be interesting to see if that name sticks as she gets older, like a teenager. Have a great day. Jude

  11. I love this story, Gramie-Goo!! There is something that is so special about the love of a grandchild... something you could never explain... or understand, unless you have experienced it. Precious photos!

  12. Adorable!

I want to be a grandmother in the worst way but I keep reminding myself "all in God's timing Linda, all in God's timing!"

  13. Christine,

I'm with ya on this one. I have every intention of being Marmie to my someday grandchildren. But I'm sure I'll get tagged with something like "Noodle" and wind up loving it!!
