I saw this sign a few years ago and realized how true it is.

Getting older is hard.
But sitting around isn't what I want to do.

I want to be healthy, active and helpful.

So, I got a pedometer to track my movement (steps).
At first I used my phone but then I found that my phone wasn't always with me, all day.
I would get discouraged with how few steps I took.

Tom suggested a Fit-bit, but I didn't want something around my wrists.
Besides, it  hooks up to your phone.
And if you know me, that isn't me!
I'm a pretty BASIC person.

Then Tom found the perfect pedometer.
You can clip in onto your waist band, stick it in your pocket or wear it around your neck.

Now, when I get up and dressed,
I look at what I did the day before and reset it.
So easy!

My goal is 7,000  steps or more a day.

If at the end of the day if  I'm short of my goal,
I jump on to my little exercise trampoline.

AND LOOK AT ME NOW!!!!

(disclaimer, this is NOT me!
hahahaha)

How do you stay active?

  1. I used to have a pedometer, but it bummed me out because I never made the 10k steps. Then I read an article that the 10k steps came from ad campaign overseas and wasn't based in medical fact (phew!) so now I just try to walk every day and feel good about it!

  2. This is such a good idea! I stay active and I'm tired every night...but in a good way! I hike 2 or 3 times a week which is what I love to do. On the other days I walk around my neighborhood or get lots of extra chores done around the house. I can't do everything...every day! I'm no Spring Chicken as Aunt Bee once said! heehee! You're doing great! Now I want to go look at those neat campers!

  3. I love my Fitbit Alta and I bought a different band from Amazon. The band looks more like a watch band and its magnetic so no bulky closure! Enjoy walking!

  4. Oh Christine, I hear ya! : )

I'm doing better by spending time on my eliptical while I watch a youtube on my television per my Channel Master, the time goes really fast like that and I usually take a country walk up the driveway and back too with hubby and doglets. : )

It sounds like you are on the ball and doing great!

We purchased our eliptical on Walmart.com very reasonably right around 100. and it's lightweight too with little wheels if we ever need to move it out of the living room quickly! Haha! I've tried my phone but I'm like you, I don't keep it with me and place it on a central table during the day.

Have a great evening, enjoyed reading about your pedometer, I may have to check into one of those! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I've never had luck with pedometers (but I've never invested in a good one, so it probably makes a difference). Instead, I just stick my phone in my pocket.

  6. I'm not very active because of the pain I am in all the time. I bought a $5 fitbit wanna be from Target. It does not connect with my phone. I am having a good day if I get to 500 steps. I always figure something is better than nothing.

  7. I love the idea of setting the steps goal and then topping it up on your little trampoline at the end of the day if you didn't reach it.

  8. What a wonderful reminder, Christine, of the importance of being active. especially as we get older. I was given a fit bit a few years ago, it was hard getting used to it, plus it wasn't very pretty when I was dressed, but I pressed on.
Now it s the first thing I grab in the morning, I have slept in mine just to see how my sleep pattern was, and was so surprised at how I wasn't getting as much Rem sleep as i needed.
I must admit that I haven't met my goals to much this summer as it was to hot and humid to walk outside, but have now resumed since the weather has changed. I think I had set the goals to high, 10,000 steps, now I am back to a more realistic one. 7,000!~smile~
Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comment.
Keep me posted on your walking, I need all the inspiration I can get, Karen from Happy One is another inspiration, she walks 6 miles a day, I don't know how she does it plus she is so active in her church and home.
I apologize for writing such a long comment, have a blessed day,
    love,
    Sue

  9. I just had to come back and tell you how much I enjoyed your last post on the camping trip, I love camping but haven't in a while. You have such a beautiful, close knit family, always so inspiring, this is what I feel our heavenly Father intended for families to be, Cherish every memory making moment. My dh and I have so many with ours, but they are now grown with families of their own, we only see them occasionally since they live in other states, but when we get together and pull out the photos the memories come flooding back.
    have a blessed day,
    Sue
